The Franklin County highway department settled on a resolution to begin roadwork on a county road and bridge during their regular meeting April 20.

A resurfacing project for County Rd. 44 from County Rd. 244 out to Alabama Highway 24 was settled on by the commission. The rehabilitation of 16 bridges in the county using federal aid money was also settled on by the commission.

The commission pointed out that Franklin County Archives Director, Chris Ozbirn, was instrumental in getting the Alabama Department of Transportation to use the federal aid money for the bridge rehabilitation project.

Franklin County Highway Engineer, David Palmer, said the issue on the County Rd. 44 project was in conjunction with a prior weight limit that is no longer there. The repairs to many of the bridges will deal with wooden abutments in place that can be replaced in order to bring the bridges up to good standing, according to officials.

A proclamation for National Service Recognition Day was made in regards to honoring on April 30 the foster grandparents that participate in service at East Franklin School.
