Hayden Copeland’s game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Phil Campbell Bobcats to a 6-5 win over the Hackleburg Panthers last week.  Trailing the Panthers 5-4 heading into the seventh inning of play, Copeland’s hit scored Peyton Thomas and Tristen Godsey to defeat the local rival.

Copeland was also the winning pitcher for the Bobcats finishing the game’s last two innings and striking out five and allowing only one run.  Nick Swinney started the game for Phil Campbell and pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs, only two of which were earned.

Gage Roberson had three hits and scored two runs for the Bobcats.

Peyton Thomas had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs as well.

Vina

Vina and Waterloo played well into the night until they could play no more.  In the eleventh inning of an 11-11 tie the rain began to fall and the game was called.

“This has been a tough season to get a game in,” said Vina coach Greg Hamilton.  “We did everything we could.  I guess neither team wanted to stop playing.”

Vina sent four pitchers to the mound. Tyler Renfrow went three innings giving up two earned runs, four hits and striking out six. James Barnes pitched 2 ⅓ innings striking out three.  Justin Gravitt pitched 1 ⅔ innings.  Brandon Cole finished the game with four innings allowing no runs from the 8th to the end of the game.

At the plate Gravitt had a three-run double and an RBI single.  Cole had an RBI single and a double.  Barnes had two singles.  Hayden Murray had a double.  Austin Childers had an RBI single.

Vina trailed 5-0 early in the game.  The Red Devils scored nine unanswered runs and took a 9-5 lead into the 6th inning.  Waterloo came back to take the lead 11-9 going into the top of the seventh inning.

“I witnessed a little bit of everything in this game, good and bad,” said Hamilton. “We are doing everything we can to stay sharp until the weather breaks.  We tell our players to show up everyday with two uniforms ready to play
Red Bay

The Red Bay Tigers got two easy wins over the Belgreen Bulldogs last week, 17-0 and 19-2.

In game one, Red Bay’s Jade Pounds pitched a no-hitter and struck out seven batters.  Pounds also produced at the plate going three for four, with two RBIs and scored one run.  The Tigers piled up 15 hits in the game.  The top of the lineup—Kaleb Burroughs, Chandler Allen and Nick Thorn—produced seven RBIs for Red Bay.

Troy Borden had a big game in the second matchup for Red Bay.  Borden pitched five innings, giving up only two runs and striking out 15 Belgreen batters.  Borden also had a home run, three hits, five RBIs, and scored two runs.  Nick Thorn and Jade Pounds had two hits each.  Thorn also scored four runs.  Kolby Bragwell and Landen Burgett scored two runs each.
