Russellville’s Abby Holcomb got the Lady Golden Tigers off to a fast start scoring all 12 of the team’s first quarter points in a 44-39 home win over Lawrence County.

Holcomb hit 4 of 5 three-pointers in the game during the opening period and finished with a game-high 15 points in the area win over the Red Devils. The Lady Golden Tigers led 12-9 at the end of a quick first quarter during which neither team committed a foul.

Lawrence County came back in the second quarter outscoring Russellville 13-10 to make the score tied at the half at 22-22.

Russellville led by one going into the exciting final period.  Holcomb connected on a three-pointer to tie the score and then Peyton Hester hit her second three-pointer of the quarter to give the Lady Golden Tigers the lead with just over a minute to go in the game. Hester then added a late steal followed by an easy bucket to extend the lead. Later, Ashley Dunstan iced the win with two made free-throws.

Holcomb’s 15 points led the way for Russellville. Hester also scored in double figures with 13 points in the win. They were followed in scoring by Ashley Dunstan (8), Patricia Borden (4) and Aleshia Phillips (4).
