Phil Campbell 46, Sulligent 41

The Phil Campbell Bobcats got a big area win over the Sulligent Blue Devils 46-41. In a critical matchup in the three-team area the Bobcats bested the Blue Devils with the addition of freshman Darby Elliot. Elliot, who moved up from the junior high team to fill in for injured Elizabeth Benford, helped the Bobcats pull away for the win in the fourth quarter.

“Darby’s quickness and ability to take the ball to the basket was key for us in getting the win,” said Phil Campbell coach Craig Thomas. “She is adjusting to the speed of the varsity game and we are looking for her to really help us replace Elizabeth’s presence in the second half of the season.”

Phil Campbell led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter but Sulligent held the Bobcats to only two points in the second quarter to take a 19-15 first half lead. Both teams played even in the third quarter with each scoring 11 points. Elliot’s quick hands led to several steals and layups in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats outscored the Blue Devils 20-11 to take the win.

Taylor Pace led the Bobcats with 17 points. Elliot added 12 points. Others scoring for the Phil Campbell were Leah Gunderman (8), Vickie McAlister (5), Bethany Harris (2), and Courtney Baker (2).

Belgreen 66, Phillips 59

The Belgreen Bulldogs got a big area win defeating the Phillips Bears 66-59.

Phillips led Belgreen 52-43 at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs had a scoring explosion in the fourth quarter outscoring Phillips 23-7 to take the win.

Laken Bragwell led Belgreen with 26 points. Jasmine Martin added 17 points and Allyson Bragwell scored 12 points.

Tharptown 40, Cherokee 27

The Tharptown Wildcats jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead and held on for the 40-27 area win over the Cherokee Indians.

Tharptown led 20-15 at halftime and 30-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Jessica Wilson and Savannah Hamilton each scored 11 points in pacing the Wildcats to the win. Others scoring for Tharptown were Kaitlyn Vandiver (7), Haley Malone (6), and Brooke Daniel (5).

Phil Campbell 53, Tharptown 49

Although the Tharptown Wildcats outscored Phil Campbell in three of four quarters, it was the 19-9 second quarter advantage for the Bobcats that led to the 53-49 win.

Tharptown led Phil Campbell 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime the Bobcats led 29-21 and would never relinquish the lead.

Taylor Pace led all scorers with 20 points. Darby Elliot added 12 points for the Bobcats. Others scoring for Phil Campbell were Courtney Baker (8), Vickie McAlister (7), Bethany Harris (4), and Leah Gunderman (2).

Kaitlyn Vandiver led Tharptown with 16 points. Savannah Hamilton added 13 points for the Wildcats. Others scoring for Tharptown were Brooke Daniel (6) and Ashlyn Vandiver (2).

Belgreen 59, Vina 20

Belgreen jumped out to a 23-7 first quarter lead over the Vina Red Devils and cruised to the victory.

Belgreen was led by Allyson Bragwell who scored 15 points. Jasmine Martin added 12 points.  Others scoring were Nicole Borden (6), Brianna Wood (5), Laken Bragwell (4), Emma Riley (4), Brooke Williams (3), Shelley Barber (3), Anna Castillo (3), Kylie Murray (2), and Katie Pinkard (2).

Emily Howard led Vina with 11 points. Others scoring for the Red Devils were Mary Morgan Clingan (4), Ashleigh Thompson (2), Erica Cantrell (2), and Emily  Renfrow (1).

Florence 52, Russellville 40

Ashley Dunstan led the way with 20 points and 16 rebounds but the Lady Golden Tigers fell at home to the Florence Falcons.

Florence led 19-7 at the end of the first quarter after both teams struggled to get on the scoreboard to start the game.

Russellville outscored Florence in both the second and third quarters but trailed 36-28 going into the final period.

Abby Holcomb had 9 points for the Lady Golden Tigers. Angela Woods (5), Kallie Allen (2), Patricia Borden (2) and Peyton Hester (2) also scored for Russellville.

Russellville 51, Phil Campbell 39

The Lady Golden Tigers picked up a big win over Phil Campbell Monday night in Russellville. Ashley Dunstan led the way for Russellville with 24 points, 16 rebounds and 8 blocked shots.

Russellville led 28-21 at the half and 44-30 going into the fourth quarter.  Abby Holcomb had 8 points for Russellville.  Peyton Hester (6), Angela Woods (6), Michaela Smith (3), Patricia Borden (2) and Devin Jones (2) also scored for the Lady Golden Tigers.

Taylor Pace led Phil Campbell in scoring with 20 points.  She was followed by Courtney Baker (7), Vickie McAlister (5), Darby Elliott (5) and Leah Gunderman (2).
