Tharptown schools now evacuated for similar bomb threat
School officials have confirmed that Tharptown High School and Tharptown Elementary School have been evacuated for bomb threats made on the same social media site where the threats about Russellville High School were posted.
School officials said the threats made on the Yik Yak app indicated the “same thing would happen at Tharptown during 6th period today”.
Franklin County School Superintendent Gary Williams said the threats were directed toward the high school but because the elementary school is in such close proximity, they were being evacuated as well.
“All the students and faculty have been evacuated to the football field until we determine the school campus is safe,” Williams said.
“We take any kind of threat toward our schools, students or faculty very serious.”
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said sheriff’s deputies are on the scene as well as the Tharptown Volunteer Fire Department and the Florence Police Department’s bomb squad, which just finished doing a search of the Russellville High School campus earlier this morning.
