Two killed in wreck

RED BAY – A two-vehicle crash last week claimed the lives of two people.

According to officials with the Alabama State Troopers, Jimmy D. Stanphill, 73, of Golden, Miss., and Maliaka Humphrey, 20, of Vina were both killed in the crash that happened on Oct. 22.

Troopers said the crash occurred at approximately 8:23 p.m. on Alabama 247 near the intersection of Franklin 23, which is six miles north of Red Bay.

Officials at the scene said it appeared Stanphill was traveling south on Alabama 247 and Humphrey was traveling north when Stanphill’s 1992 Buick Park Avenue collided head-on with Humphrey’s 2011 Nissan Sentra.

Both Stanphill and Humphrey were pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Elzie Malone.

The crash is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
