For the first time in nearly 40 years, the historic Roxy Theatre in downtown Russellville will show a movie on their new large-screen projector system.

Susie Malone, president of the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council, said they will show the movie “Elvis on Tour” this Friday, Aug. 15, starting at 5 p.m.

The 1.5 hour-long documentary will be the first feature-length movie shown at the theatre since the 1970s.

Malone said admission would be $2 and everyone is invited to attend this event, but seating is limited.

“This will be a historical moment you won’t want to miss,” Malone said.

“We are thrilled that we finally have the equipment to be able to show movies at the historic Roxy Theatre once again. We hope this will be the beginning of many movie nights held at the Roxy in the future.”

Malone said they planned to show the popular documentary “Muscle Shoals” at the theater in September and details about this show would be released closer to time.
