The road to Birmingham

Northwest Regional Tournament held this week at Wallace State

High school basketball’s Northwest Regional basketball tournament will be held this week at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
Three Franklin County teams have secured their spots in the tournament and will be facing tough opponents on their way to the state play-offs in Birmingham.

Tharptown girls (20-8)

Tuesday at 3 p.m. – Falkville Blue Devils vs. Tharptown Wildcats

About Tharptown’s Opponent:

The Falkville Blue Devils are the winners of 1A, Area 14.  They defeated Brilliant 69-37 in sub-region play to advance to the northwest regionals. They have an overall record of 18-7 and were 7-0 record in their area.  They are coached by Jeffrey Adams.  Their roster includes two seniors, one junior, and nine sophomores.  Falkville is located in Morgan County.

Falkville’s last five games: lost to Woodville 65-56; lost to Danville 50-30; defeated Saint Bernard Prep 47-22; lost to West Morgan 50-46; defeated Brilliant 69-37

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Covenant Christian vs. Lynn on Friday at 3:40PM for a chance to advance to the Final Four in Birmingham.

 

Belgreen boys (27-3)

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. – Sumiton Christian Eagles vs. Belgreen Bulldogs

About Belgreen’s Opponent:

The Sumiton Christian Eagles are the runner-up of 1A, Area 13.  They defeated Falkville 63-50 in sub-region play to advance to the northwest regionals.  They have an overall record of 20-7 and were 5-1 in their area.  They are coached by William Griffith.  Their roster includes four seniors, six juniors, three sophomores, and one eighth graders. Sumiton Christian is located in Walker County.

Sumiton Christian’s last five games: lost to Lynn 39-32; lost to Jefferson Christian 59-55; defeated Marion County 74-65; defeated Meek 68-45; defeated Falkville 63-50.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Phillip vs. Parrish on Friday at 5:20PM for a chance to advance to the Final Four in Birmingham.

 

Red Bay girls (25-3)

Wednesday at 6 p.m. – Sulligent Blue Devils vs. Red Bay Tigers

About Red Bay’s Opponent:

The Sulligent Blue Devils are the runner-up of 2A, Area 14.  They defeated Fultondale 54-37 in sub-region play to advance to the northwest regionals.  They have an overall record of 12-7 and were 4-2 in area play.  They are coached by Kayla Northington.  Their roster includes two seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and four freshmen.  Sulligent is located in Lamar County.

Sulligent’s last five games: defeated Fayette County 73-39; lost to Lamar County 58-55; lost to Hamilton 48-41; lost to Carbon Hill 59-42; defeated Fultondale 54-37.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Tanner vs. Cold Springs on Saturday at 9:00AM for a chance to advance to the Final Four in Birmingham.
