Trio indicted for attempting to steal nine TVs
Three people who were arrested in July allegedly attempting to steal multiple televisions from a local business were indicted recently.
Donshay Keonie Beckwith, 31, 604 North Washington St., Tuscumbia; Tareka Santana Davis, 27, 1509 East 26th St., Sheffield; and Stefano Jamal Williams, 30, 2405 East 14th Ave., Sheffield, were all indicted for second-degree theft of property, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, patrol officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart in Russellville at 9 p.m. on July 28, 2013, on a shoplifting call.
Hargett said when officers arrived on the scene, members of Wal-Mart’s loss prevention department were already engaged in a foot pursuit of the suspects.
Investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said two of the suspects got into a vehicle and attempted to leave the parking lot but were stopped by patrol cars.
“The other individuals kept running to the parking lot near El Patron where they were also apprehended by officers,” Lowery said.
Officers confirmed the suspects were attempting to steal nine different LED TVs from the electronics department at Wal-Mart as well as other housewares items.
Lowery said officers found some of the TVs in the suspects’ vehicle and all merchandise was recovered.
Lowery said the value of the stolen items was over $1900.
Rushing said all three cases would be scheduled for an arraignment hearing this month.
