Man dies in mobile home fire

EAST FRANKLIN – An East Franklin man was killed Sunday morning after his mobile home caught fire, officials said.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, James Carly Flannigan, 72, of 1020 Franklin 92, was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Elzie Malone.

Oliver said Flannigan lived in the home alone and no other injuries were reported.

According to Oliver, a call came in at 11:01 a.m. Sunday that the mobile home was engulfed in flames.

He said Flannigan’s brother, who lived across the road, saw the flames and called authorities.

Oliver said three volunteer fire departments from East Franklin, Haleyville and Peeble were dispatched to the scene and the home was fully involved the first units arrived at 11:16 a.m.

Oliver said once the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered Flannigan in the sleeping area of the mobile home. He said the cause of his death is still unknown at this time.

Emergency personnel remained on the scene until after 5 p.m.

Oliver said the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
