Local school delays due to winter weather
Weather authorities are predicting some of the coldest air in almost two decades to come through North Alabama Sunday evening and into Monday, and school officials are making adjustments that will be in the best interest of students and staff.
According to Franklin County Schools Superintendent Gary Williams, as of now, all Franklin County Schools will be delayed by two hours on both Monday and Tuesday.
Williams said school officials will make any further decisions on Sunday in the event that snow or other frozen precipitation makes area roadways unsafe for travel for an extended period of time.
Students in the Russellville City School System are not scheduled to report back from Christmas break until Tuesday.
RCS Superintendent Rex Mayfield said city schools will follow the same schedule as the county schools and will be delayed by two hours on Tuesday.
Teachers at Russellville are scheduled to report back on Monday for a teacher in-service day. Mayfield said he hoped to be able to start in-service meetings on time Monday, but a final decision would be made on Sunday after all weather factors were taken into account.
