The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers fell behind early Friday night against a determined Florence team by the Lady Golden Tigers fought their way back to win the game 69-52.
Russellville was trailing in the first quarter by eight points, 9-17, but they outscored the Lady Falcons by 20 points in the second quarter and took a 12 point lead into the locker room at the half.
Florence closed the gap to eight at the end of the third quarter trailing the Tigers 44-36.
But the Lady Tigers scored 25 points to Florence’s 16 in the final quarter of the game, with the Tigers winning with a final score of 69-52.
“We are coming together more each game, playing more and more like a team should play,” head coach James Bostick said. “A great deal of this is due to the leadership of our only senior player, Victoria Jackson.
“We are a young team. If we continue to improve as the season progresses, we will be competitive in our area.”
Ashley Dunstan led all scorers with 34 points, including 14 points from the foul line. Victoria Jackson contributed nine points and Angela Woods had six points for the Lady Tigers.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Teresa Thompkins and Megan Brockway with four points each, Abby Holcomb and Peyton Hester with three points each and Devin Jones with two points.
The Lady Golden Tigers shot 66 percent from the foul line, making 29 shots out of 44 attempts.
In other action this weekend, the Lady Golden Tigers lost to Muscle Shoals on Friday with a score of 52-18. They also lost a close game Monday night to the Deshler Lady Tigers 48-43.
The Lady Golden Tigers face off against Phillips in a home game Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Russellville Middle School Gym.
