The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways with a home victory over the Colbert Heights Wildcats on Monday by a score of 50-44.
Belgreen used a solid team effort to overcome a small one-point deficit at the half to pull away after the break.
The Lady Bulldogs were consistent in their scoring by totaling 11 points in each of the first and second quarters and then scoring 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Belgreen’s Allyson Bragwell led all scorers with 23 points in the contest. Jasmine Martin was second on the team in scoring with 17 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Abby Hester calmly led the offense for Belgreen and had 11 assists. Hanna Taylor brought down 11 big rebounds to go with two points. Lexie Bragwell had five points to go along with seven rebounds and Allyson Bragwell also had seven boards on the night. Laken Bragwell pitched in with three points.
The Belgreen defense held Colbert Heights to only six points in the third quarter. The strong defensive effort was led by Jasmine Martin and Allyson Bragwell who each had five steals in the game.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by outside shooting threat, Destinee Pratt, who had 19 points. Pratt was followed by Mykeauna Ingram with 10 and Kelsey Robinette with 8.
Belgreen head coach Richie Hester said he is pleased with how his team is playing together so far.
“It was definitely a team effort,” Hester said.
“Even though the scoring shows that we had Allyson Bragwell, a tenth grader with 23 points, and Jasmine Martin, an eighth grader with 17 points, we had Hanna Taylor with two points but she had 11 rebounds. Then Abby Hester, an eighth grader, had over 10 assists. That’s all team effort.”
