Belgreen ninth grade girls increase win streak to 8-0

The Belgreen ninth grade girls basketball team came out with a win over Winston County on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
In the first quarter, it was all Bulldogs as Johnna Oliver scored 13 of her 19 points and Nicole Borden chipped in eight of her 13 points, putting the Lady Bulldogs out in front 25-0.
In the third quarter, Kaley Vandiver scored five of her seven points as Belgreen increased the lead to 41-5. Cortny Williams chipped in two in the final frame as the Lady Bulldogs won 48-5.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, it was a repeat of the Tharptown Tip-Off Tournament championship game.
In the first quarter, Ana Castillo scored five of her 11 points for Belgreen. Those points were answered by Jessica Wilson of Tharptown who scored eight of her 20 points as Tharptown led 13-8.
Johnna Oliver had four of her 12 points in the second quarter, but the Wildcats increased their lead to 20-14. Kaley Vandiver stepped up with seven of her 10 points in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs nudged closer, trailing by three with a score of 28-31.
The fourth quarter was a complete team effort by Belgreen as all five starters scored. The Lady Bulldogs doubled Tharptown in the final frame to pull out a 44-39 win and keep their undefeated season alive.
The Lady Bulldogs play at Haleyville Tuesday night.
