Lady Bulldogs off to good start

BELGREEN – Belgreen’s Lady Bulldogs eighth grade team got off to a good start with a 43-13 win over cross-county rival Phil Campbell on Oct. 24.

In the first quarter Kaycee Wilson scored six of her 14 points as Belgreen led 10-2. At the end of the second quarter Cammie Terrell put in two to send the Lady Bulldogs into the half leading 17-7.

Callie Barber scored six of her ten points in the third quarter as Belgreen increased their lead to 29-11. In the fourth quarter Phil Campbell’s Abby Davis scored two of her seven points. In the fourth for Belgreen, Kayla William and Mallori Miler combined for six points. Also, Emma Willingham scored four of her eleven points to lead the Lady Bulldog to the final margin of victory.

Belgreen’s Lady Bulldogs ninth grade team won three games last week with a 52-5 victory over East Franklin on Oct. 22; a 33-10 victory over Phil Campbell on Oct. 24; and a 24-12 victory over Red Bay on Oct. 29.

In the first quarter of the East Franklin game, Nicole Borden scored ten of her 14 points and Shellie Barber scored all seven of her points as Belgreen cruised to a 19-2 lead. Anna Benford and Anna Swinney scored for East Franklin in the first half as Belgreen increased their lead to 27-3.

In the third quarter Kaley Vandiver, Johnna Oliver, Cortny Williams and Ana Castillo scored four, three, two and two respectively for the Lady Bulldogs as they increased their lead to 42-3. Kaycee Wilson scored four of her eight points in the final frame.

In the ninth grade girl’s game against Phil Campbell, Nicole Borden scored seven of her 11 points as Belgreen jumped out front 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. Darby Elliott of Phil Campbell had three of her seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Bobcats cut the lead to 16-5.

In the third quarter, Kaley Vandiver scored three of her 14 points as the Lady Bulldogs increased the lead to 23-8. Ana Castillo and Cortny Williams each scored for Belgreen in the final frame for the final margin of victory.

In the third victory over Red Bay on Oct. 29, it was a team effort and an aggressive full court press that produced a win for the Lady Bulldogs.

Kaley Vandiver hit a three at the end of the first quarter to put Belgreen up 7-3. In the second quarter, Jasmine Martin would hit a three to extend the Lady Bulldogs lead to 12-7.

In the third quarter, Nicole Borden scored two of her seven points as Belgreen increased the lead again to 17-9.

In the final frame, Ana Castillo scored three of her six points as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 24-12 victory.
