Suspect captured, charged in stabbing

The Russellville Police Department arrested a local man on Tuesday evening after the man was linked to a stabbing that took place Tuesday afternoon.

Jason Wade Williams, 24, 900 Lauderdale 107, Killen, was arrested for first-degree assault for allegedly stabbing a 24-year-old Leighton man in the chest, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, the RPD received a call at 3:25 p.m. from Russellville Hospital stating an individual had come to the ER with a severe laceration to his left upper chest region.

Hargett said investigators were dispatched to the hospital and, during the course of the investigation, it was determined that Williams was allegedly responsible for the victim’s injuries.

Police investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said there had apparently been an ongoing dispute between Williams and the victim over a domestic situation.

Lowery said the dispute escalated and resulted in a physical altercation outside a residence in the 2400 block of Jackson Avenue in Russellville where the victim received the stab wound.

Officials believe the stab wound could have been caused by a pocketknife.

Lowery said Williams could not be located following the incident, but officers were able to establish phone contact with him later that evening.

“Mr. Williams was in a wooded area in the Tharptown community,” Lowery said.

“After speaking with him, officers were able to get him to come out of the wooded area and onto the roadway where he was then taken into custody without incident.”

Lowery said Williams was taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m.

Officials said the victim in the case had to undergo surgery at Russellville Hospital for his injuries and was still hospitalized but in stable condition.

Williams is in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
