Bank Independent accepting donations for Oklahoma storm survivors
To show united support for the towns devastated by the recent Oklahoma tornadoes, Bank Independent and Nucor Steel have teamed up to create the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Fund, helping to raise money for the families who lost everything in these deadly storms.
Donations can be made at all 27 Bank Independent locations in north Alabama until noon on Friday, June 28, 2013. As Bank Independent’s partner in the relief effort, Nucor Steel has pledged to match every dollar in donations up to $10,000. One hundred percent of the funds collected will be distributed directly and personally to the victims.
“Two of our team members lost their homes in the 2011 Alabama tornadoes, so this hits very close to home,” said Macke Mauldin, Bank Independent President. “We’ve got so many folks from Bank Independent and in our communities who feel a close connection with the people in Oklahoma and want to help. We know how much it means to receive help when you need it most, and we want to provide that little bit of relief to these families.”
According to Mike Lee, VP & General Manager at Nucor Steel’s Decatur location, all money raised will go towards gift cards of either $50 or $100 that will be personally distributed by Nucor team members to the victims in Moore and El Reno, Okla.
David Mathews, Decatur-Morgan County Bank Independent Area President and the person who coordinated this partnership, explains that the Nucor team members will work with officials from both cities to ensure these gift cards get to the right families and businesses.
“The men and women at Nucor Steel are always willing to do whatever they can to help wherever needed,” says David. “We know and trust that all of the money raised will go directly to those who need it most.”
