Man charged with abusing girl
A Mississippi man was indicted recently after he was accused of sexually abusing a four-year-old girl.
Carlton Brady Kirby, 19, 267 Itawamba 331, Banner, Miss., was indicted for sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.
Rushing said the indictment was the result of allegations that surfaced during the summer when Kirby was staying with a woman who lived in Red Bay.
According to Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson, Kirby was staying at the woman’s residence during the first part of July when the sexual abuse is alleged to have taken place.
Jackson said the woman’s four-year-old daughter, who was also living at the residence during the same time when Kirby was supposed to be living there, told her grandmother that Kirby had touched her inappropriately.
Jackson said the grandmother immediately told the child’s mother what the child told her, and the mother took the girl to a local hospital.
“During the exam, the doctor said the child’s behavior indicated she had been abused so they contacted the Department of Human Resources, who contacted us,” Jackson said.
“We presented the information to the grand jury so they could determine if there would be enough information to take the case to trial.
“This is such a sad situation. It’s never easy to deal with these kinds of cases because you know the child will have to deal with the repercussions the rest of her life.”
Rushing said Kirby would be arraigned on Jan. 13 and his case would then be placed on the February criminal court docket.
