Cops call on criminals after finding cell phone at scene

An accused burglar left a cell phone at the scene of the crime Friday night, which landed three Russellville men behind bars over the weekend.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said an investigation into a burglary that occurred on Friday, Aug. 27 around 11:30 p.m. led officers to arrest Tyler Blake Garrison, 19, 1550 Tyler Avenue, Russellville, and Adam Brent Jefferies, 21, of 1213 City Lake Drive, Russellville.

Garrison and Jefferies are both charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property, first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators said the burglary occurred at 917 Burgess Street and “98 percent” of the items taken from the residence were recovered during the arrest.

Authorities said money, jewelry, electronics and prescription medication were among the items stolen.

Investigators said one of the suspects had left their cell phone behind at the scene of the crime and that is what led authorities to accuse Garrison and Jefferies of the crime.

Hargett said Aaron Hollingsworth, 19, of 1307 Scott Avenue, Russellville, was also taken into custody at the same time and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana.

“We do not believe Hollingsworth was connected to the burglary,” Hargett said. “We received information that Garrison and Jefferies contacted Hollingsworth to come and pick them up at the Chevron.

“As Hollingsworth drove up, officers went to arrest Garrison and Jefferies for the burglaries and found a significant amount of marijuana in Hollingsworth’s car, so all three were taken into custody at the same time.”

Garrison and Jefferies are currently being held at the Franklin County Jail while Hollingsworth has been released on bail.
