Lady Golden Tigers shut out at Florence 4-0

FLORENCE — The Russellville softball team kept the game close for a while, but a pair of runs by Florence in the fifth inning to put the Lady Falcons ahead 4-0 sealed the loss for the Lady Golden Tigers.

Florence got on the board early as the first batter of the game came around to score in the first inning.

Russellville struggled at the plate the first time through the lineup and did not have a runner reach base until the fourth inning.

Brianna Malone singled for Russellville and advanced to second on a single by Jordan Murray. Both runners advanced on a pass ball, but were stranded before they could score.

Florence added a run in the bottom of the fourth to expand its lead to 2-0 and added the insurance runs in the fifth inning.

The Lady Golden Tigers were unable to carry the success at the plate in the fourth inning into the fifth and sixth innings as Florence retired six straight Russellville batters.

Murray drew a walk in the seventh inning, but was forced out at second when Olivia Taylor hit into a double play. Olivia Jones drew another walk, but Haley Arrington grounded out to end the game.
